Zocdoc Acquires Sohar Health to Automate Insurance Verification

Appointment booking marketplace Zocdoc announced the acquisition of insurance technology company Sohar Health in a move aimed at streamlining coverage verification for patients and providers. According to the companies, this transaction represents the first acquisition in Zocdoc’s nearly 20-year operational history. Financial terms of the agreement were not publicly disclosed by the organizations.

Automating Insurance Workflows

Sohar Health specializes in simplifying complex insurance administrative tasks through application programming interfaces. The company’s technology is designed to automate insurance discovery, verify eligibility and benefits, check network status, and generate cost estimates for healthcare organizations.

Prior to the acquisition, the two entities maintained an operational partnership. Zocdoc integrated Sohar Health’s technology starting in 2025 to assist patients in determining their insurance coverage status while searching for medical care. Executive statements note that approximately one million patients successfully verified their insurance coverage through this integrated search functionality since the collaboration began.

Expanding Care Access Infrastructure

Company leadership indicated that the primary objective of the acquisition is to scale seamless insurance verification across the Zocdoc platform and its broader partner network. Sohar Health is slated to continue operating under its current brand name while maintaining service for its existing customer base.

Ashish Mandavia, M.D., co-founder and chief executive officer of Sohar Health, stated that navigating insurance coverage during medical needs often creates unnecessary friction for patients. Mandavia noted that combining operations with Zocdoc allows the team to extend their platform to a larger population of patients.

The acquisition aligns with Zocdoc’s broader corporate strategy to develop infrastructure supporting the entire journey of finding and accessing medical services. In September, the company introduced the Care Access Network, an enterprise offering designed to allow payers, technology platforms, and consumer applications to embed appointment-booking features directly into their own digital interfaces.

Partnerships and Ecosystem Reach

Zocdoc reported collaborations with several major technology and healthcare entities, including Amazon Health AI, Google’s Gemini, Yelp, Healthgrades, Blue Shield of California, and WellHive. Platform statistics provided by the company indicate that users can currently schedule appointments with over 200,000 providers spanning more than 200 medical specialties and supporting over 10,000 insurance plans.

Oliver Kharraz, M.D., founder and chief executive officer of Zocdoc, emphasized the familiarity between the two teams following their previous collaboration. Kharraz stated that integrating Sohar Health’s technical platform and expertise is intended to simplify insurance navigation for both patients and healthcare providers at the critical moment of appointment booking.
